Volkswagen’s blacked-out special edition returns after an eight-year absence, built on the Style grade and finished entirely in stealth.
There’s a moment in every model line’s life when a manufacturer stops chasing chrome and starts chasing character. For Volkswagen’s Amarok, that moment is the Dark Label, a special edition that trades brightwork for blackout, and quiet good taste for genuine presence.
First introduced on the original Amarok back in 2018, the Dark Label name has returned to South Africa after an eight-year hiatus, now built on the second-generation bakkie’s mid-range Style grade. The formula is simple: take a proven, capable double-cab and dress it entirely in matte black, inside and out, without touching the mechanical foundation that makes it dependable in the first place.
The result is a bakkie that looks like nothing else in the Amarok line-up and one that’s already turning heads on South African roads.

The Package
Every Dark Label starts life as an Amarok Style, then receives a head-to-toe blackout treatment that’s impossible to mistake for anything else in the range.
Exterior
Matte black grille, roof rails, door handles and styling bar, paired with 20-inch matt black alloy wheels, dark privacy glazing, smoked taillights and black side sills.
Interior
Dark ArtVelour seats, black door panels and an Ebony Black headliner, finished off with a leather-wrapped steering wheel carrying the Dark Label emblem.
Powertrains
Choice of a 2.0 TDI (125kW / 405N·m) or 3.0 V6 TDI (184kW / 600N·m), both paired with a smooth 10-speed automatic gearbox.
Underpinnings
Built on the mid-range Style grade; the same mechanical foundation, with full-time 4MOTION all-wheel drive standard.
1. Flagship looks, mid-range money
A genuinely premium, head-turning appearance package that undercuts the Aventura and PanAmericana on price.
2. Engine choice, no compromise
Take the efficient 2.0TDI for value, or step up to the 184kW V6, one of the most powerful bakkie powertrains sold in South Africa, without buying into the top-spec range.
3. An identity of its own
Nothing else in the Amarok line-up looks like it. The blackout treatment is unmistakable on the road.
4. Full capability retained
Built on the Style’s mechanical base with standard 4MOTION all-wheel drive and a 10-speed automatic style with zero off-road compromise.
5. Backed like the rest of the range
A 5-year/150,000km warranty and 5-year/100,000km maintenance plan come standard, the bolder look carries no extra ownership risk.
